Hawley Lane Shoes has been in business since 1975, when we opened our first store in Trumbull in the Hawley Lane Mall. Our family-owned and operated company incorporates three generations of experience and is known throughout the tri-state area (CT, NY, and NJ) for our dedication to customer service, education outreach and healthy fitting. Our “Guarantee”

Hawley Lane Shoes was started by the late Jack Smolensky, the family patriarch, whose vision was to provide customers with shoes that actually fit! His passion for this vision created a legacy which we have been building on and will continue to build on for many years to come!

Jack was one of the first Pedorthists to graduate from New York University. (A Pedorthist, or foot pharmacist, specializes in understanding the biomechanics of the foot and works toward long-term maintenance of individual foot health.) Jack’s sincerity with people complemented his enthusiasm to provide exceptional customer service and education about footwear and the far-reaching impact of foot care on overall health and well-being. It was therefore no surprise that he created a unique store environment which welcomed all foot types.

Hawley Lane Shoes is truly a family business, Jack’s daughter Sandy and son Bob, eventually took up Jack’s mantle; their father’s mission became their own. Sandy, who was fondly called “Grandma Shoe”, like her father, became a Certified Pedorthist and shared his enthusiasm for educating people about foot health and providing exceptional customer service. Through her painstaking efforts, she was able to propel the company forward and make it the household name it is today. The wealth of knowledge that she had, combined with her benevolent nature and genuine care for the wellbeing of others, made Sandy a treasure to her employees and the communities she served. It is said that “Gaining Knowledge is the first step to wisdom. Sharing it is the first step to Humanity”. Sandy truly embodied this quote, she played a key role in training employees so they could knowledgeably, confidently and effectively serve the community. She was also instrumental in launching the careers of several Pedorthists by providing them with the training and resources to get certified.

We have stayed true to Jack’s and Grandma shoes’ mission for over 45 years. The years have seen us through relocation and expansion to five locations in Connecticut – Stamford, Norwalk, Shelton, Orange and Danbury. We are grateful to the communities we serve and the customers who have helped us to carry on the legacy of healing lives from the feet up.
